  • Cards should be folded parallel to the short side of the paper in order to fit into the envelopes listed above.

  • The above card sizes given are for standard cards. Lots of layers and other 3 dimensional items can increase the thickness of your card.

  • If you have an envelope size not listed above, create a card 1/4 inch less on each size than the envelope. To cut your paper, take one dimension and double it.

Postal and mailing guidelines for cardmakers:

It can be embarrassing to create a beautiful piece of art only to have the recipient be nailed with an insufficient postage fee. To help avoid this from happening, here are a few tips for you.

Additional postage is required for the following items:

  • Square envelopes

  • Envelopes longer than 11 1/2 inches

  • Envelopes taller than 6 1/8 inches

  • Envelopes thicker than 1/4 inch

  • Envelopes weighing more than an ounce

  • Clear plastic envelopes

  • Envelopes with clasps, strings, buttons, or other closures

  • If the delivery address is written on the shorter side of the envelope

  • If it contains items that cause an uneven thickness – Embellishers, beware of this one!

Be sure your envelopes meet mailing requirements:

  • Envelopes must be a minimum of 5 inches long

  • Envelopes must be a minimum of 3 ½ inches tall

  • If mailing a clear, colored, or patterned envelope, be sure to use a white sticker to address your envelope.

If you have further questions about mailing regulations, be sure to visit the United States Postal Service website or take you piece to the post office for proper postage.
