Alluring Impressions is proud to be an Earth friendly small business

What we do to reduce our impact on the planet's resources as a small business:

  • We produce unmounted rubber stamps and promote using re-usable acrylic mounting blocks rather than using many wood blocks to mount each stamp individually.

  • We use shipping supplies made from recycled materials.

  • We offer e-mailed invoices rather than including printed invoices or packing slips with orders.

  • We offer our catalog in an electronic PDF format rather than printed.

  • We operate our business from our home, rather than having a second location to heat and provide electricity for.

  • We print our index sheets on 100% post consumer recycled paper.

  • We recycle every scrap of paper we can.

  • Our computers are set to go into sleep mode rather than the screen saver setting, and are shut down every night.

  • Our printers are left in the "off" mode until needed.

  • We buy our supplies in larger quantities and with less frequency (we try to placing avoid small orders that would require more frequent shipping).

  • We make electronic payments, rather than writing checks and sending by mail.

  • We also accept electronic payments for the same reason!

  • We utilize online printing of our shipping labels and carrier pick up to avoid extra trips to the post office.

  • We recycle packing materials like peanuts and bubble wrap whenever possible.

What we do to reduce our impact on the planet's resources as a family:

  • We use re-usable bags when shopping rather than accepting plastic or paper bags.

  • Our home heating system is on an automatic timer keeping our home cooler at night and while we are away.

  • We use compact fluorescent light bulbs to light our home.

  • We buy most of our supplies in bulk reducing not only the amount of packaging that needs to be disposed of, but also the amount of trips need to purchase supplies.

  • We recycle everything we possibly can - in fact our trash cart is only a third full most weeks and our recycling cart is always packed full!

  • We do not purchase bottled water, rather we carry reusable water bottles filled with our well water.

  • We wash clothing in cold water only.

  • We hang our laundry outside to dry in the warm weather months rather than use the dryer.

  • We have opted out from junk mail lists.

  • We have called our credit card companies and requested to be removed from their mailing lists (this also can help prevent identity theft if your mail were to be stolen from your mail box!)

  • We use eco-friendly laundry soap (and recycle the container when it is empty!)

  • We make choices on the products we buy according to the ability of the container to be recycled (we can recycle squeeze bottles here, but not plastic tubs.)

  • We use the back of junk mail and unwanted paper to make lists.

  • We read the newspaper online rather than subscribing to printed newspaper (this helps impulse shopping as well because I don't see the weekly ads!).

  • We run errands on the way home from work rather than making special trips just to go to the store.

  • We use a re-usable coffee filter rather than disposable paper filters.

  • We use the air dry setting on our dishwasher rather than heat dry, and only run the dishwasher when it is full.

  • We open the blinds during the day to utilize natural lighting as well as make use of passive solar heating.

  • We pay our bills electronically.

  • We use Simple Green all purpose cleaner for cleaning (also as an alternative to commercial stamp cleaner!)

Small steps you can take to make an environmental impact:

  • Buy organic products.

  • Buy locally grown and produced foods.

  • Pack a waste free lunch using reusable containers and lunch bags.

  • Re-use grocery bags.

  • Purchase products made from and packaged in recycled products.

  • Minimize the use of disposable goods.

  • Drive less - bike, walk or carpool.

  • Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents.

  • Recycle more.

  • Keep your tires inflated properly.

  • Use less hot water.

  • Avoid products with excess packaging.

  • Turn off and unplug electronic devices when not in use.
