How to Care for your Rubber Stamps

A good quality rubber stamp can provide years of service if properly cared for.  If stored and cleaned properly, your stamps can last you a lifetime.

How  to store rubber stamps:

  • Store your stamps in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to excessive heat and humidity.  Humid places are bad for the wood of your mounted stamps. On the same token, rubber will harden if too cold. Freezing may break down the seal between the rubber cushion and the wood mount.

  • Avoid prolonged direct exposure to sunlight. UV rays break down and dry out the rubber causing your stamp to warp and crack.

  • Clean stamps after each use before storage. Store unmounted stamps in empty CD cases. Make sure they are standard size cases (the slim ones won't work), remove the insert and discard. Your unmounted stamps mounted on EZ mount will stick right to the case! You can cut a piece of paper to fit the case and stamp an index of the images stored in the case. You can also label the spine of the case with a labeler or sticker so you can quickly find your stamps.

How to clean rubber stamps:

  • Clean your stamps after each and every use. Keep a damp sponge or alcohol-free baby wipes handy when stamping. Simple clean ups will be a breeze!

  • Stamp off excess ink onto a scrap paper before cleaning.

  • Use a stamp cleaning solution on the rubber die only - do not let it contact the cushion or wood where it can break down the adhesive.

  • Avoid full submersion of the stamp into water, soap, thinner, acids, etc. It will soften the wood and weaken the adhesive holding your stamp together. Wipe excess cleaning solution from the rubber die using a soft, dry cloth or towel.

  • Do not use solvents such as Goo Gone or Window Cleaner on your stamps. They will break down the rubber and the adhesives that make up your stamp. Simple soap and water, commercially made stamp cleaners, or our homemade cleaner work best. (Goo Gone works great to remove sticky stuff from double sided tape on clear acrylic mounts or scissors.)

  • Use an old soft tooth brush to get down into the tiny cracks and crevices of your stamp.

  • Really stained stamps can be cleaned using Staz-On cleaner, or our homemade cleaner. This will remove most stains from your rubber including permanent ink.

We hope these tips help you to enjoy your stamps for years to come - now go forth and create!
